How to Track Vimeo Videos

How to track Vimeo videos using Google Tag Manager in Funnelytics

Download This GTM Container

This is a modified template based on the guide in this article by Bounteous. They are the real brains behind this.

Download GTM Container

Import The New Container Into Your GTM Account

Update the tag titled 00 Update on Install - Funnelytics Base

In order for this to track correctly to your workspace, you need to add the workspace tracking script to the page. You can add your workspace tracking script directly to the tag titled '00 Update on Install - Funnelytics Base' if it's not installed elsewhere.

If the base script is already installed, either as another tag in your GTM or directly onto the page, you can just delete the '00 Update on Install...' tag.

Save and Publish the Container

In order for the changes to appear live for everyone, you need to be sure that the container is submitted/published.

Mapping Vimeo Video Actions in Funnelytics

In order to show these video interactions inside of Funnelytics, you need to map an action onto the canvas.

Configure the Video Action

NOTE: To configure the action properly the action data must have already been recorded by the script.
To achieve this just run some simple test visits to the site performing the action.

To set the action icon to show the video action data we have to select the icon and

  1. Click on the tracking button (black circle with the two arrows).
  2. Move to the Advanced Action section and click on the drop-down field.
  3. In the list that shows up click the video element.

This icon will include all the video action performed.

Vimeo Video Action setup

If we want to segment all those specific actions we shall add the attributes to that action.

Video Actions attributes

To add an attribute to an action we simply have to follow these steps.

  1. Click on the +where button
  2. Click on the first dropdown field, Here we can select video_action or  video_title.
  3. Click on the second dropdown field.
  4. Select the value for the attribute we selected before (es video_action 20%)

NOTE: An attribute can be inserted only one time. If we add video_action 20%  and we try to add another video_action attribute the first will be substituted with the new one.

The value  for the video_action attribute can be one of the following options, depending on what you want to visualize:

  • Play
  • Pause
  • 10%
  • 25%
  • 50%
  • 75%
  • 90%
  • Watch to End

The video_title attribute instead will collect the Name of the videos.
